Our History & Purpose
Southwinds is a literary and arts magazine published annually in the spring semester to showcase the creative work of Missouri University of Science and Technology students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Its printing is financed by the University’s Student Activity Finance Board, and the magazine is distributed free of charge to the Missouri S&T Community. The club Southwinds, which produces the magazine, is a recognized student organization on campus and is open to any S&T student or staff member to join!
Southwinds first appeared in the spring of 1976 and has been published with some regularity since that date. The Library of Missouri S&T is now creating a digital archive of all past issues.
Each fall semester, Southwinds welcomes new submissions from the campus community. The magazine seeks contributions of poems, stories, photographs, and original artwork, and all can be submitted to our submission page. The traditional deadline for submissions for the spring issue is Groundhog Day!
